Ocean Conservancy

We reduced the ocean to its elements: immensity, beauty, vulnerability. What better way to protect it?

The Challenge

Save the ocean—it’s the biggest cause on Earth. But big can be overwhelming. How can we protect the waters that envelop most of our planet? The Ocean Conservancy needed a digital experience to make the ocean an intimate friend so that the fight for its health becomes a personal responsibility.

The Solution

We used compelling images and content to let the ocean tell its own story and connect with the audience. At its heart, this project was about relevance. We needed the website to convince viewers that ocean conservation is personally relevant to them, and that they need to act. This "relevance engine" became the digital communication platform that connected the Conservancy's work to users' lives. Visitors use the site to make donations, volunteer and recruit friends to join them.

The Result

The Ocean Conservancy's new site offers users lots of ways to engage, so it's easy to move fluidly through steps to get news and take action. Online, at least, the vast ocean is as accessible and relevant as a neighborhood.
